Abstract
On 1st November 1625, Saint Bonaventure was solemnly proclaimed patron saint of the island of Fuerteventura, and his feast day was celebrated every 14th July. The acclamation had as its object of special attention the saint's banner, which was taken by the island's bailiff. The proclamation was announced by the town crier, whose voice was joined by the sounds of two war chests and the bells of the capital town, together with the sound of the horses of the militia and the authorities and the crowd that came in large numbers to the acclamation.
