Abstract
During the mandate of the mayor Vicente Cano (1787-1793), important public works and reforms were carried out in the city of Las Palmas. Among the most important of these were the works for the conduction of water from the natural spring of Morales, and the construction of several public fountains that supplied water to the population. These works were completed on 25 August 1792, with the inauguration of all the city's pillars. The event coincided with the celebration of a festive event in honour of the day of Queen María Luisa of Parma, which is why the sound of the water was joined by the resounding sound of gunshots from the island's fortresses. Isidoro Romero y Ceballos gave a good account of all the events in his Diario Cronológico Histórico (1780-1814).
