Tomás Luis de Victoria was not a Castilian cathedral musician in the same sense as most of the Spanish religious polyphonists of his time. However, its presence is notable in the historical documentation of the cathedral archives: capitular agreements, accounting items, letters, releases, statutes and book inventories. This project aims to collect as many documents as possible between the composer's time and the mid-19th century (even knowing that more will continue to appear), and transcribe it in its entirety. A good part of the documents appear cited in scattered bibliography, but a new search and consultation has been carried out in situ in order to complete and unify the transcriptions. The original spelling has been respected, except for the double consonants and the u/v ambiguity. Abbreviations have been developed, standardized upper and lower case, added accentuation and some punctuation marks. The amounts have been put in Arabic numerals. The order of presentation is chronological; This is how all the references to sending a printed copy are seen together, which is the most frequent content in this documentary.
Not having a period image of the composer, we have chosen one of the idealizations of the 20th century: the drawing signed by Tonio for an musical edition made in Vitoria in 1948.
We express our gratitude to all the archivists (canon directors, technicians, auxiliary staff) who have allowed us to do the work.
